Ellen Shindelman Kowitt is President of the JGS of Colorado. She is responsible for representing the group and conducting meetings of the Society. Ellen also serves as webmaster and teaches the Jewish Family Tree Initiative: Workshop and Mentoring Series. Ellen was editor of the Society newsletter, Chai From Colorado, and she has participated in Society indexing projects.
Elaine Levy is Vice President of Programming for JGS of Colorado. She joined JGSCO in 2010 after hearing a presentation made by JGSCO to Hadassah.
Elaine is originally from Youngstown, Ohio and she attended Ohio State University. In 1970, she moved to Breckenridge, CO and was very active in the Summit County Historical Society. She helped establish the historical museum in Dillon and also worked on the restoration of the Jewish section of the cemetery in Leadville, CO.
Now retired after owning and operating a small distributorship for 28 years, Elaine has family roots in Belarus - possibly in the shtetl of Shklova - and she is a member of the Belarus SIG where she successfully connected with several cousins.
Elaine has three grown children and seven grandchildren. She enjoys hiking in the mountains - especially in Rocky Mountain National Park, she skiis Copper Mountain in the winter, loves taking classes at various places in the metro area, and is a Melton graduate. Additionally, she is treasurer of her homeowners association and has served on various boards and committees in the business community.
